About Client

Communities In Schools (CIS) is a non-profit organization that serves 1.56 million students across more than 2,500 schools nationwide. Operating within the public school system, CIS plays a crucial role in recognizing the needs of students and collaborates with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and volunteer groups to provide vital resources. Committed to the mission that every student, regardless of race, gender, ability, zip code, or socioeconomic background, has what they need to realize their full potential in life, CIS tirelessly works towards making a significant impact in the lives of youth.

Project Goals

Our goal was to enhance and modernize the delivery of the existing onboarding training materials for site coordinators, transforming the training into a more dynamic and captivating format. These site coordinators are essential in linking students with the critical resources provided by the school system and its partners.

Following an in-depth analysis of feedback from 1,700 site coordinators, it became evident that the training required an update to incorporate more contemporary, practical learning methods that resonate with adult learners through multimedia elements. Our design team enriched the training with interactive features such as drag-and-drop activities, immersive video scenarios, and relevant case studies that reflect the true essence of the CIS mission. The goal was to provide a learning experience that emphasizes real-world application over theoretical models. To facilitate comprehension and retention, we encapsulated key information in visually appealing infographics and practical job aids, which were available as downloadable resources.

Final Result

The final course culminated in the creation of eight engaging training modules that breathed life with custom illustrations, interactive designs, and site coordinator personas. These modules have effectively prepared new site coordinators with the essential skills and knowledge needed to support students adeptly, showcasing the significant impact of meticulously designed eLearning solutions on improving organizational training. The course has been rolled out to site coordinators across 3,270 schools in 25 states, receiving an abundance of positive feedback from staff at various levels within the organization. This project underscores the power of storytelling and a learning-by-doing approach in facilitating deep understanding and active engagement, with the collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) playing a crucial role in its success.
